Stoma Care

Course Description:

This course provides the essential information and underpinning knowledge for staff supporting young people with a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy. The course looks at the difference between the different stomas, the care and support needs of individuals with a stoma.

Course Outline: 

  • Identify what a stoma is and why someone may have a stoma
  • Identify the different types of stoma
  • Look at the social and emotional effects as well as cultural effects of living with a stoma
  • Identify the stoma products used by people
  • The process of changing stoma products
  • Recognising abnormalities in stomas
  • Daily stoma care

Course Duration:

The trainer will carry out an on-going assessment, and practical observation

All delegates will receive a certificate of attendance

The course can be delivered at locations to suit the client or at one of our training venues
Maximum number of delegates per trainer is 15
