Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF)

Course Description:
This qualification is designed for individuals and employees who have been identified as needing to undertake the role of a first aider within the workplace. The syllabus follows the recognised outcomes identified by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for First Aid at Work (FAW).

This qualification provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills in first aid and is practical in nature ensuring individuals feel equipped to deal with workplace first aid emergencies, until more qualified help arrives.

Course Outline:  

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider and be able to assess an incident
  • Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally and a casualty who is not breathing normally
  • Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
  • Manage external bleeding
  • Recognise and manage a casualty in shock
  • Manage minor injuries
  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey
  • Be able to administer first aid to injuries to bones and muscles
  • Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Be able to administer first aid to:
    suspected chest injuries, burns and scalds, eye injuries, sudden poisoning, anaphylaxis
  • Recognise and administer first aid to major illnesses including:
    heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes

Course Duration:
18hrs / 3 days

On-going observation and assessment is undertaken by the trainer along with an end of course assessment

All delegates upon successful completion of the course and end of course assessment  will receive a Highfield level 3 QCF certificate and First Aid ID Card

The course can be delivered at locations to suit the client or at one of our training venues
Maximum number of delegates per trainer is 12
