Dementia Good Practice

Course Description:
This course includes and builds on the areas covered in the dementia care course and is designed for individuals who need a greater understanding of dementia as well as a need to look at supporting good dementia care within the workplace. This course is an invaluable resource to senior care staff and managers who are tasked to lead good dementia care.

Course Outline: 

  • Understand the term dementia and expel some of the common myths about dementia
  • Explore brain anatomy and how dementia affects the brain
  • Living with dementia, including the effects on communication, daily living and behaviour
  • Look at strategies to support the individual with communication, daily living tasks and behaviour
  • Understand the differences between dementia and other linked conditions
  • Understand the principles of person centred dementia care
  • Look at current models of good practice in dementia care
  • Explore and look at the application of systems such as dementia care mapping
  • Understand the importance of a feelings based approach to dementia care

Course Duration:

The trainer will carry out an on-going assessment

All delegates will receive a certificate of attendance

The course can be delivered at locations to suit the client or at one of our training venues
